The Northern Circuit is the newest and longest route on Kilimanjaro, circumnavigating nearly the entire mountain before the final summit push. At 9 days on the mountain, it provides the best acclimatization of any route and consistently achieves the highest summit success rates.

11-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Moshi
Airport transfer to hotel. Guide briefing and equipment check. Dinner included.
Day 2
Lemosho Glades (2,100m) → Forest Camp (2,780m)
Drive to the remote Londorossi Gate. Trek through lush rainforest. Distance: 7km / Duration: 3–4 hours.
Day 3
Forest Camp (2,780m) → Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)
Exit the forest into open moorland on the western Shira Plateau. Distance: 8km / Duration: 4–5 hours.
Day 4
Shira 1 (3,500m) → Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)
Cross the Shira Plateau. Stunning views. Optional excursion to Shira Cathedral. Distance: 8km / Duration: 4–5 hours.
Day 5
Shira 2 → Moir Hut (4,200m) — Northern Circuit begins
The Northern Circuit diverges north here. Remote wilderness — few trekkers. Moorland gives way to alpine desert. Distance: 12km / Duration: 6–7 hours.
Day 6
Moir Hut (4,200m) → Buffalo Camp (3,985m)
Traverse the rarely-visited northern slopes. Dramatic views of Mawenzi and the Kenyan plains. Distance: 9km / Duration: 5–6 hours.
Day 7
Buffalo Camp (3,985m) → Third Cave Camp (3,870m)
Continue the circuit around the north-east flank. The terrain shifts into volcanic rock and sparse vegetation. Distance: 8km / Duration: 5 hours.
Day 8
Third Cave (3,870m) → School Hut / Kibo (4,750m)
Final acclimatization hike to high camp. Early dinner and rest before midnight summit push. Distance: 6km / Duration: 4–5 hours.
Day 9
School Hut → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Summit push begins at midnight via the eastern approach. Stella Point at sunrise. Uhuru Peak — the Roof of Africa. Full descent to Mweka Camp. Duration: 14–17 hours.
Day 10
Mweka Camp (3,100m) → Mweka Gate (1,630m)
Final descent. Certificates at the gate. Celebration dinner at the lodge. Distance: 10km / Duration: 3–4 hours.
Day 11
Departure
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport or onward to safari.
