Marangu Route — "The Coca-Cola Route"
The Marangu Route is the oldest and most established route on Kilimanjaro, nicknamed the "Coca-Cola Route" for its relative accessibility. It's the only route where climbers sleep in dormitory huts rather than tents — a significant comfort advantage for some.
The route ascends and descends the same trail, which makes it slightly less scenic than the Machame or Lemosho, but it's a solid choice for first-timers, families, and those who prefer hut accommodation over camping.

8-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Moshi
Airport transfer to hotel. Guide briefing and equipment check. Dinner included.
Day 2
Marangu Gate (1,830m) → Mandara Hut (2,720m)
Trek begins through beautiful rainforest rich with birdlife. The Maundi Crater is a short detour worth taking. Distance: 8km / Duration: 3–4 hours.
Day 3
Mandara Hut (2,720m) → Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Vegetation changes from forest to moorland. Views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Zebra and eland possible. Distance: 12km / Duration: 5–6 hours.
Day 4
Horombo Hut (3,720m) → Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Cross the arid "Saddle" between the two peaks. Alpine desert begins. Kibo hut sits directly below the summit cone. Distance: 9km / Duration: 5–6 hours.
Day 5
Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Summit push begins at midnight. Gillman's Point on the crater rim at sunrise. Uhuru Peak — the summit — by mid-morning. Descend all the way back to Horombo. Duration: 12–16 hours.
Day 6
Horombo Hut (3,720m) → Marangu Gate (1,830m)
Final descent through the heathland and rainforest. Summit certificates awarded at the gate. Transfer to hotel for celebration dinner. Distance: 19km / Duration: 5–6 hours.
Day 7
Rest Day in Moshi
Relaxed morning. Optional sightseeing around Moshi. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 8
Departure
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport or onward to your safari or Zanzibar.
