Why Choose Amani

Peace in Planning. Serenity in Every Moment.

"Amani" means peace in Swahili. It is not just our name, it is how we run every expedition.

Our Story

The Founders' Story

Amani Expeditions was founded by Denis and Stima — two friends whose shared belief is simple: that a safari should feel like home for the traveller, and a source of pride for the community that hosts them.

Our Team

Meet the People Behind Your Safari

The people you'll meet on an Amani trip have spent their working lives in the parks and on the mountains of northern Tanzania. Anderson leads our guiding team; together they've logged more than 15 years and 300+ safaris between them. They'll be with you from the day you land to the day you leave.

Anderson, Amani Expeditions team

Anderson

Head Guide

Has a sixth sense for lions and a seventh for where the best sundowner spot is. You bring the camera, he brings the luck.

Ebrahim, Amani Expeditions team

Ebrahim

Head of Sales

Warning: talking to Ebrahim may cause sudden calendar-clearing and an urge to say "let's just book it."

David, Amani Expeditions team

David

Supply Chain

Packs a cooler like a game of Tetris and checks the tyres like they owe him money. Breakdowns don't stand a chance.

Nisya, Amani Expeditions team

Nisya

CFO

Allergic to hidden costs. The only surprise on your safari should be a leopard in a tree.

Our team has been guiding visitors through northern Tanzania for over a decade. We know the parks not from brochures, but from a lifetime of walking them.

When you travel with us, you are not a booking number. You are a guest. We take time to learn what you are looking for. We answer your questions honestly, even when the answer is "that is not the right choice for you."

You are booking with the people on the ground in Arusha. When you message us, you reach the team in Arusha. When you arrive, the people who planned your trip are the ones running it.

From the Field

Notes from the People on the Ground

A few notes from Denis and Stima, drawn from years of guiding travellers through these parks and peaks. No brochures, just what we have learned on this land.

On the seasons

If you want the calving, come between January and February out on the Ndutu plains. Up to 9,000 wildebeest calves are born every single day, and the predator activity is like nowhere else. For the Mara River crossings, it is July to October. The dry season from June to October is the classic safari window, but the green season in November and December is when the landscapes turn lush and the crowds thin out. Tell me your dates and I will tell you where the wildlife actually is.

On choosing a Kilimanjaro route

For most travellers I recommend the Machame route over seven days. It is scenic, it gives you the climb-high-sleep-low pattern that matters most for acclimatization, and our summit success rate reflects that. If you want fewer crowds, Lemosho approaches from the west through pristine wilderness. And if you have the time, do the four-day Mount Meru climb first. Your body arrives at Kilimanjaro already adjusted, which is the single best thing you can do for your summit odds.

On the lodges we use

Every lodge on your itinerary is confirmed before you travel. We have stayed in these camps ourselves, Tumbili Lodge in Arusha, Harmony Safari Camps inside the Serengeti, Embalaki on the Ngorongoro crater rim. We only send you where we would sleep ourselves, and the team that plans your trip is the team that runs it on the ground.

Our Values

What You Can Always Count On

Locally Owned

We are a locally owned operator based in Arusha. Our team has been guiding visitors through northern Tanzania for over a decade. When you call us, you speak to someone who knows every trail, guide, and camp firsthand.

Built Around You

Every Amani safari is designed from scratch. We look at where the wildlife actually is during your travel dates, which lodges suit your style and budget, and how fast or slow you want to move. No templates.

Direct From Arusha

We own the planning and run every trip ourselves. When you book with Amani, you are booking directly with the people who will be there when you arrive. Our pricing is transparent. No hidden costs.

Uncompromising Safety

"Amani" means peace in Swahili. We carry supplemental oxygen on Kilimanjaro climbs, maintain well-serviced 4×4 Land Cruisers, and provide 24/7 customer support throughout your expedition.

We Take the Rush Out

Too many safaris pack in too much. We plan around balance, game drives paired with proper rest, lodges chosen to cut unnecessary travel, and enough space to actually absorb where you are.

Travel with Purpose

Destiny Foundation

At Amani Expeditions, we believe tourism should contribute positively to the communities we operate in.

We proudly support Destiny Foundation, a local foundation in Tanzania that opens its doors to children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other developmental and physical challenges. The foundation provides care, educational support, therapy assistance, and essential resources.

A portion of our proceeds contributes to this mission. When you travel with us, your safari helps create opportunity and dignity for children who need it most. Serenity becomes meaningful when it creates impact.
