Momella Route — Standard 4-Day Climb
Mount Meru is one of Africa's best treks and the ideal acclimatization climb before Kilimanjaro. At 4,566m, it's a serious mountain in its own right — with a spectacular volcanic crater, knife-edge ridge walk, and wildlife-rich lower slopes inside Arusha National Park.
An armed ranger accompanies your group through the lower sections of the park (buffalo and leopard present). The 4-day option is recommended for its better acclimatization and a more comfortable pace. All trekkers stay in a series of basic but comfortable huts on the ascent.

4-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Momella Gate (1,500m) → Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)
Enter Arusha National Park. Armed ranger accompanies the group. Trek through dense fig forest with buffalo, giraffe, and colobus monkeys. Distance: 10km / Duration: 4–5 hours.
Day 2
Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) → Saddle Hut (3,570m)
Climb through montane forest into open moorland. Views of the inner crater and Kilimanjaro begin to open dramatically. Optional side hike to Little Meru (3,820m) in the afternoon. Distance: 5km / Duration: 4–5 hours.
Day 3
Saddle Hut → Socialist Peak (4,566m) → Miriakamba Hut
Pre-dawn start (midnight) along the dramatic knife-edge crater rim. Socialist Peak summit by dawn with Kilimanjaro glowing on the horizon. Descend to Miriakamba for rest. Duration: 9–11 hours.
Day 4
Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) → Momella Gate → Arusha
Final descent through the forest. Certificate collection at Momella Gate. Transfer back to Arusha. Distance: 10km / Duration: 3–4 hours.
