Important Kilimanjaro & Meru packing list

As we are still working with confidence with a dream of reaching our clients to the roof of Africa and give our clients chance to discover the beauty of the Mt. Kilimanjaro under aids of our well trained guides/leaders, the following are the prerequisites things that our clients should be with to make your summit successful. Make sure that you are well equipped and don’t forget to limit the weight of your personal stuff that will be carried by our porters, ensure your duff bag do not exceed 18kg or should be less. Extra luggage, including clean clothes to wear after your climb or that will not be used up there can be left at the hotel

  • Personal travel document

  • Valid passport and visa

  • Airline ticket

  • International health card with immunizations
    (Yellow fever)

  • Travel insurance Medical insurance

  • US$ cash or Travelers Checks or Credit Card

  • Personal items during hiking

  • Toilet kit (soap, tooth brush, toilet articles, wet wipes, etc.)

  • Towel

  • Sun screen and lip protection
    Ziploc bags to protect camera, binoculars, etc. from dust

  • Money belt for passport and other valuable things

  • Medicals and first aid supplies needed

  • Headache tablets

  • Altitude sickness-Diamox (if not allergic to Sulphur)

  • Diarrhea – Imodium

  • Nausea

  • Painkillers

  • Muscular sprains

  • Abrasions blisters and cuts – Plaster, bandages

  • Antiseptic cream – Betadine

  • Eye drops

  • Insect repellent

  • Hiking gears (to be used at low and high altitude)

Clothes

  • Duffel bag – large enough for all climbing gear and clothing. To be carried by the porters.

  • Day backpack – between 20 – 35 liters. Large enough to carry your water, camera, raincoat, lunch pack, snacks & warm clothing

  • Sleeping bag

  • Kilimanjaro map (Can be bought at Park gate)

  • Waterproof, windproof and breathable jacket and trouser

  • Waterproof, breathable & windproof pants

  • Polar fleece (middle layer)

  • Thermal underwear (under layers)

  • Mittens or warm gloves

  • Glove liners (if necessary)

  • Balaclava

  • Gaiters

  • Thermal water flask

  • Hiking pants

  • Regular underwear

  • T-shirts

  • Raincoat or Poncho

  • Water resistant semi-stiff hiking boots – mid weight boots work great

  • Shoes for overnight camps like sneakers, running shoes, etc.

  • Socks – several pairs for the climb

  • Liner socks – to keep your feet dry and limit the risk of blisters

Mountain equipment’s

  • Sun hat or similar (with a brim)

  • Collapsible ski sticks (optional but highly recommended)

  • Water bottles – two or three (total capacity at least 4 liters)

  • Head lamp or Flashlight (torch) good, strong with spare batteries

  • Water purification tablets

  • Sunglasses, good quality dark lenses for the climb, with a securing strap

IMPORTANT TO NOTE

Hiking gears (clothes & mountain equipment) as listed in number four above can be hired from rental shops nearby at good price. So in case one is not interested to carry them from their home country worry not you can hire them here at good and affordable price
